A’s Match Report

Hello Everyone!

On Saturday we took on Salisbury North at home in what was a crucial game for us.

The div 2 ladder is getting extremely tight and heading into the game we were equal 2nd on the ladder with SHOCs and Old Iggies.

The game started in pretty decent conditions but soon turned sour with a fair downpour of rain in the 1st and 2nd quarters.

Clearly, prior to the game the exciting part of Saturday for all Phantoms supporters was to see ex North Melbourne star Lindsay Thomas step out in the gold and blue for the first time.

The theatre was built and after the half time siren (after a tight 1st half) Lindsay had a shot at goal, tight in the pocket right in front of the Salisbury North supporters. He went back and slotted the goal sending the crowd into a frenzy and giving us a 3 goal lead!

We went on to win by 3 goals. Despite the margin, I really felt we controlled the game and in my opinion Salisbury North battled hard to restrict the margin.

I was extremely impressed with our attack on the ball and whilst Salisbury north dished up a fair bit of intimidation our boys absorbed that and I felt reversed the contest onto our opponents. This is a real step in our maturity and focus!

Worth mentioning also, is that we had 2 significant injuries during the game with Mac Nield (our leading goal kicker) injuring a quad and Nick Ramsey breaking a leg. We remain hopeful that Nick will be back for finals.

Better players for the game were – Henry Papatolis, Tom Pearce, Austin Forbes, Sam Inglis, Adam Scholz and Tom Unger. Reid Patterson and Matt Rowe kicked 2 goals each.

Other results went our way also with Old Iggies, Sacred Heart and Henley all losing, seeing us outright 2nd on the ladder.

This week we are off to Karen Rolton Oval (Old Railways Oval) to take on Old Iggies in a HUGE game for the club.

See you at the Footy!
