Hi All,

I would just like to update you all on the progress of the Senior football squad in preparation for season 2021.

Firstly, I would like to say how thrilled I am to be back involved with the club and just as I remember it, the club and its people have been extremely welcoming and helpful in every way.

From day 1 of my appointment football director Steve Jacquier and I have been working tirelessly to ensure we put the best possible team on the park in 2021. Recruiting, meeting current players, coaches etc takes a mountain of work and I can honestly say that without Steve’s drive, passion and experience we would not be in the position we find ourselves in today. That position is a very healthy one, we have assembled a group of fantastic footballers and people. This squad is not fully aware of the heights we can reach yet but I am sure we will soon find the confidence and belief to be real contenders!

So far, we have added approximately 15 new players to the senior squad and we are not done yet. I will endeavour to give you all some information on each of these new phantoms soon.

Jono (Kouta) Koutsikas has been appointed as our B grade coach for 2021. Kouta retired from playing at the end of last year and I have been extremely impressed with his application and attention to detail in the role so far.

At the end of a shortened (COVID) season last year we finished 6th after being in the top 5 for most of the season. We were the 3rd best in the competition for attack (scores for) and 7th best in defence (scores against) so from a game plan perspective it is logical that we have spent a fair bit of time on our team defence. The group has embraced this and each session I can see improvement in our understanding and executing of what we are looking for. However, please don’t think that we will be playing a boring defensive type of game. We will be asking the players to be bold and move the ball with speed. We have speed so we will use it!

I have and will continue to ask the players each game and each training session to Trust, Believe and Compete. These 3 words are forming our mantra for Season 2021 but above and beyond that I am big on having FUN. We are truly a family (on and off the field) and whilst we all want to win we must continue to embrace what we can control – that is FUN.

Lastly, please get ready for a massive local derby when we take on Sacred Heart at home on round 1 (Saturday, April 10)! The more support the better so get down to see our first-class facility which includes our new electronic scoreboard!!

Have a great Easter break!

Regards,

(Minnas) Damian Minervini – A Grade Coach
